Section Adaptive Test Format

  • The GRE is a section adaptive test meaning it changes the difficulty level of the questions as you answer them.

Ways to take IELTS

IELTS in Test Centre

  • IELTS on paper : The test is taken with a pen and paper at an Authorised Testing Facility and includes listening, reading and writing abilities. Results are accessible 13 days after test completion.
  • IELTS on computer : The test is taken on a computer at an authorised IELTS testing facility. The Speaking part of the test is done face-to-face with a qualified IELTS examiner whereas listening, reading and writing are done on the computer. IELTS Syllabus

Listening :

  • Candidates hear the recording only once and answer the questions as they listen.
  • In Paper Based format, test-takers have 10 minutes to transfer their answers to the main answer sheet.
  • In Computer Based format, they have two minutes to review their answers after finishing the listening test.

Reading :

  • A variety of questions are used, including: Multiple Choice Questions, matching heading/information/sentence endings/features, completion of sentence/table/note/summary/Flow chart / Diagrams, and short-answer type of questions.

Writing :

Academic Module :

  • Task 1 is primarily Report Writing (explaining diagrams and charts).
    Students are required to write at least 150 words.
  • Task 2 is Essay Writing (Discuss on a viewpoint/debate on a topic/problem)
    Students are required to write at least 250 words.

General Training Module :

  • It also has 2 writing tasks.
  • Task 1 presents a Letter Prompt (formal or informal). Students must write at least 150 words for the same.
  • Task 2 is same as that of Academic Module.

Speaking :

It is conducted by a trained examiner. This is usually done on another day.

  • Part1: Examiner asks questions to the student about his/her work, studies, hobbies etc.
  • Part2: The candidate gets 1 minute to prepare and speak on a given topic.
  • Part3: It's a mutual discussion with the examiner.

IELTS Scoring

  • IELTS is graded on a scale of 0 - 9, known as Band Scale.
  • Test Report Form has the test taker's overall score as well as scores for the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
  • Generally, a score of at least 6 bands for UG and 6.5 bands for PG is required in each section.

IELTS One Skill Retake

  • It helps individuals to retake only one specific section of the test instead of retaking the full test.

DUOLINGO

The Duolingo English Test is a computer-based proficiency test that evaluates a test taker's Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills. Using computer adaptive technology, the Duolingo exam adjusts the difficulty of questions for each individual. Additionally, the test includes a video interview and a writing sample, which, while not graded, are submitted to the institution along with your proficiency score when you report your results.

  • Write About the Photo : An image will appear on the screen & you need to write about it in 1-3 sentences.

  • Listen and Type : You will hear a sentence & then you need to type it.
  • Read Aloud : A sentence will appear on the screen and you need to read it aloud.

  • Interactive Writing : It involves a two-step process where you first write about a given topic for 5 minutes based on a prompt. Following this, you write a follow-up response for 3 minutes based on a second prompt related to your initial writing

  • Complete the sentences : It consists of a passage with several blank spaces, and you have to select a word from the options to complete the sentences.
  • Complete the passage : In this task, you will see two sections of a passage with a missing sentence in the middle and you have to select the best sentence to fill in the blank.
  • Highlight the answer : You will see a question on screen, and you need to find and highlight the answer within the passage.
  • Identify the Idea : You need to pick the main thought expressed in the passage from the given options.
  • Title the Passage : In this task, you need to select the best title for the passage from the given list of options.
  • Listen and Respond : You will read about a situation, and you need to pick the best option to start the conversation.
  • Summarize the Conversation : You need to summarize the conversation concisely in the form of a paragraph, focusing on the key points within 75 seconds.

Duolingo Scoring

Duolingo English Test is graded out of 160 in 5-point increments. Generally, 115 is considered to be a good score. Test results include an overall score as well as the scores of Literacy, Conversation, Comprehension, and Production sections. The result is available within 2 days of test completion.
